Everyone forgets Bitcoin is the original memecoin

I own Dogecoin. I was waiting for a grand dip for the longest time. It finally came and I bought some at 21 cents on AscendEX.

You’d think this is yet another post to shill a shitcoin so I can dump it back on you. But I always held my own thesis on why I wanted to hodl some $Doge. In fact, there is quite an elaborate rationale and this article has been a long time coming.

But first, some history. Men from an ancient age invented money even before they did written history, so it is uncertain who or how people first came to determine a protocol for exchange. Archaeology tells us our ancestors used seashells when transitioning from direct barter. When oversupply became problematic and the need for fungibility and durability arose, we started manufacturing analog objects to represent money, from the Aurignacian (Africans migrating to Europe) tally sticks to the Mesopotamian shekels and then many cultures saw the minting of currency first through bronze, then silver and eventually humans settled upon gold. You can see how we developed these notions of value attribution — silver beats bronze and gold beats silver. We needed some semblance of psychological security and for the longest time in modern history, gold provided that security. It’s lustrous, can be melded into adornments to symbolize stature, shaped into jewelry to convey beauty…
